A team of strategists, researchers, designers and engineers working on digital transformation with governments, corporates and NGOs across the continent. Young as an organisation, senior in the rooms it operates in.

The portraits had to hold both. Warm and current enough to reflect a team that works the way a studio does, credible enough to sit beside a ministry logo in a partnership deck without looking like startup marketing.

One of Kenya's long-established firms, working in dispute resolution and corporate and commercial law, with a partnership whose profiles are read closely by clients choosing counsel.

A different register entirely. Formal, composed, unmistakably legal — the kind of portrait that sits under a directory listing or beside a matter summary without drawing attention to itself. The discipline here was consistency across seniority: a partner and an associate photographed to the same standard, so the team page reads as one firm.

African Women's Development Fund

A feminist fund that resources women's rights organisations and movements across the continent, working with partners in more than fifty countries. A team that size and that dispersed is rarely in one room.

Which made the annual staff retreat the whole opportunity. Two days, one venue, everyone present — and a brief that ran in two directions at once: document the retreat as it happened, and come away with a consistent portrait of every person there.
